it’s our movement

Posted in integral at 11:08 am with

Ever since November and everything that went down when I left my job, myself and many in my close community have had a bit of a charge around the word integral. I’ve found myself trying to avoid saying it or discussing it when possible. This morning I decided fuck that, that word’s mine. Integral refers to a specific brand of the next wave of consciousness, one that I’ve chosen to leave behind. However, integral, the word itself, refers not to a brand identity, but to a way of being open to the world. That’s all the integral movement is I think, if nothing else it comes back to simply feeling how open you are to the moment. How many “I’s” can you take the perspective of in the moment? The framework and the minutia of the theory are very important and crucial things, but I think they’re really just like training wheels. They’re rigid and well defined because at first you need a little structure and guidance to point you on your way and keep you from tipping over. But at some point, that system becomes internalized, and you can take off those training wheels and start cruising on your own. Once you’ve had a taste of that, there’s no reason to ever really use training wheels again. Now that doesn’t mean other people shouldn’t use them, as they’re a damn good learning tool, nor does that mean that people should stop trying to make better and more efficient training wheels that reduce the learning curve so more people can start riding on their own faster and with less learning pains.

I think I’ve personally hit that point where I’ve left the training wheels behind, and am no longer so concerned with their structure or rigidity. I’d rather cruise along on my own two wheels, wiping out every now and then for sure, but riding along on my own, learning what works and doesn’t work first hand.

So yeah, fuck that, I won’t let the word integral be tainted, I won’t let the brand have it. integral is my word, its our word, and its our movement. It’s a felt body sense, its debate and theory that’s open to challenge and discussion, its welcoming to people at all walks of life no matter what stage of development they’re at. It’d rather see people reach healthier states of being exactly where they already are before hammering into their heads that they need to change and become this vague thing called 2nd tier. It tries to work not only from the top down, but from the bottom up; it focuses on both depth and span, not just the former.

At least that’s what I think the integral movement is.

That ones for you Lee. That was only about a 3 year edit. And like most things, the sequel didn’t quite live up to the original….

Oscars are this sunday

Why I still let myself get excited by this overlong, boring, predictable hollywood affair, I do not know.

But, alas, I do, and its fun to get semi excited about something. This year’s best picture nominees are actually fairly diverse for once and pretty damn interesting. And although the delight of watching Jon Stewart host won’t be there this year, I’ll sludge through it with a few glasses of wine.

seeing The Secret. Wow, more or less the most partial theory of anything I’ve ever seen. Do it if it feels good, think about whatever you want and you’ll get it.

The good kind of tired

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:41 pm with tags:

I’m exhausted, sore, totally sleep deprived and I couldn’t be happier. Between a freelance shoot last tuesday, winning the Huffington Post Contagious Festival Jury Prize, and pretty much starting a new job today I also helped crew a shoot for a pilot TV show starring stuart davis. Consisting of three very intense 12 hour days, it was exhausting but incredibly fun. There’s nothing I’d rather be doing than that, and it felt very good to be doing it. I was only the boom mic operator, but got to assist with setting up lights, directing, taking care of a baby, set design and the rest of the whole shebang. And best of all, it was fucking hilarious. I have no doubt some network is going to pick it up, Stu’s an absolute natural.

Energetically it really feels like something shifted a week or two ago, there’s suddenly a lot of momentum in all kinds of directions for lots of people I know right not. It’s pretty kick ass.

I also had a kick ass lifting session with Casey this morning. I’m totally addicted to the Sauna.

It’s now time to read, wee a bit, and then nap.*

Advice to anyone living on the street

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:24 am with tags:

to the nice fellow I talked to downtown the other day, if I’d had change I would have given it to you, I enjoyed our conversation. However, some advice for future panhandling, it might help with other people if you don’t follow up “hey man can I borrow some change for the bus” with “i just got out of jail”.

You might see a slightly higher return that way.

anyways, glad they dropped your case.

My friend Toby and I won the “Jury Prize” for the January Contagious Festival over at The Huffington Post. Thanks to all those who watched the video and shared it with their friends!

The Festival is now on hiatus for a few months, but I’m sure we’ll be entering again when it goes back online…

Those atrociously annoying Mac VS PC ads have hit the U.K.

Fantastic response. I’ll always heart my shitty old PCs.

PCs aren’t shiny, they aren’t sexy, they’re often barely working, and they’re constantly being rebuilt and crashing

Just like me.

Well it took three days, starting Thursday and finishing Saturday morning, but I finally watched the complete Extended Edition of LOTR on my big ass theater. And boy howdy was it worth it. Still looking for a job, nailed a phone interview for customer service last week. Not what I wanting be doing but I certainly need the money.
